Tomato production in India plays a vital role in feeding both domestic and international demand. Hence, millions of tonnes of tomatoes are harvested every year across diverse climates, terrains, and using distinct growing practices. This makes India one of the world’s leading contributors to tomato production.
Although India is home to a vast range of tomato varieties, ShimlaRed believes that the finest tomato produce comes from the higher ground – quite literally! After all, when manufacturing our finest Tomato Paste, Tomato Puree, and Tomato Ketchup, not any tomato will do. That’s the reason why we choose our produce from the pristine Himalayan region. Combining natural goodness with premium quality and purity, Himalayan tomatoes are ideal for high-performance food applications.
Reasons ShimlaRed Chooses Himalayan Tomatoes
Although the tomato production in India spans from the plains of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra to the tropical soils of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the Himalayan region has its own rare advantage. The pristine mountain spring water, cool high-altitude climate, and nutrient-rich soil are perfect for growing premium varieties of tomatoes.
Tomatoes grown in such climatic conditions form better colour, naturally higher °Brix content (sugar levels), and thicker skins. We source from farms that focus on both traditional and hybrid tomato varieties – both offer better flavour and higher pulp yield. All these characteristics make Himalayan tomatoes ideal for concentrated tomato puree and paste production.

Our Production Process & Retort Technology for Quality and Shelf Life
- Production Process:
At our advanced production facility, we process freshly sourced ripe Himalayan tomatoes into premium Tomato Puree and Tomato Paste using retort technology. Being one of the reliable tomato paste manufacturers worldwide, we adhere to strict hygiene and processing protocols.
The freshly sourced tomatoes undergo washing and sorting, and are further into the pulp maker to separate seeds from the skin. Further, the puree is collected in a separate container. Next, it goes through either filling and sealing section for packaging or further processed to form concentrated paste. For processing it into a paste, it undergoes a higher temperature to evaporate excessive water and form a concentrate paste with minimal nutrient loss.

- Retort Technology:
Thanks to retort technology, the end product goes through high-temperature sterilisaiton. This process helps in locking in its flavour while extending its shelf life without any preservatives. It even retains its smooth texture, vibrant red colour, and natural tomato flavour.
Our culinary experts ensure that every batch meets the highest international food safety standards while retaining the purity of Himalayan freshness. Our tomato paste and puree are perfect for large-scale food processing and HORECA requirements.
